No worries, glad if it helps. When it's up and running its audible, usually about the same as a Playstation or Xbox360. If nothing else is on it's noticeable, but if music is playing or if you're watching TV or movies the soundtrack normally drowns out the fan noise from the Microserver.

I run mine with a fan assisted graphics card too, which from reading other forums is recommended rather than a heatsink card.

I was wondering how loud the system when running, more can you hear it over the TV when watching things off of XBMC? Just I have bad experiences of trying to build quiet things that end up being loud! Also thanks for the post it saved me a lot of searching to be able to work out if this was all possible!

Thanks for stopping by. The good thing about installing as XBMC on a Microserver is the backend is linux, so it's as flexible and you need it to be. Upgrades forever!

I have eva9150 and after a year or so I am bored with it.
1. no support what so ever from netgear
2. youtube stopped working (it now says it needs a switched on pc)
3. very, very, very slow to start videos (from its own hard disk) and navigation is the poorest of all
4. no future proofing what so ever. we are stuk with a box.
5. I could never get the digital entertainer software to work on pc.
6. no support for social media (I am not a part of it but just in case)
7. the bit torrent thingy which I bought it for was a pure gimmick and it is never there
more can be added but am stopping now :)

I read somewhere you can do a spin down (of raids) after period of inactivity say 2 minutes. will that be helpful to you rather than going on standby. I also dont know about WOL concept.

Some of us went the other route, I don't have the patients or knowledge to configure a Linux box, or do I want to. Netgear 4TB NAS drive with EVA9150. Streaming MKV files which where converted from DVD using Make MKV (www.makemkv.com). They have sorted out a number of issues with the codex and now it works a treat.
